Industrial Wall Cladding: Choosing The Right Material And Style

Industrial Wall Cladding: Choosing The Right Material And Style

At Jade-Aden, we have over 30 years’ experience supplying and installing industrial wall cladding. We explain how to find the right type for your building.

There are two main factors to consider when choosing industrial wall cladding.

1) WHAT PURPOSE DO YOU NEED YOUR CLADDING TO SERVE?

Different types of cladding have different properties and features that make them better suited to offer certain types of protection and other benefits.

WEATHERPROOFING

If protecting the structure of your building from the wind and rain is a priority, rainscreen cladding can provide an excellent shield against water, wind and fire. It will also provide excellent insulating properties. A popular choice in terms of aesthetics, rainscreen cladding is a great all-rounder if you’re looking for style, thermal performance and weatherproofing.

STABILITY AND LOAD-BEARING CAPABILITIES

If stability and excellent load-bearing capacity are your main priorities, composite wall cladding is an excellent choice. Used mainly for exterior cladding, partitioning, load-bearing walls and roofing elements, composite wall cladding is often chosen for a wide range of non-residential buildings. It features an insulation core, which can range in thickness depending on the application and necessary insulation capabilities.

THERMAL EFFICIENCY

Brise soleil uses a series of horizontal or vertical blades to control the amount of sunlight and solar heat that enters a building. It can be really beneficial for buildings that get a lot of sunlight, as it helps to prevent glare and reduce overheating. Brise soleil also allows low-level sun to enter the building in the mornings, evenings and during winter, which means it can offer some passive solar heating.

By offering improved temperature regulation and protection from the sun, brise soleil can help to reduce energy costs. Its distinctive design can also make it an attractive feature in its own right.

2) THE SPECIFICATIONS OF YOUR BUILDING

Certain types of cladding are more suitable for pitched roofs than others. Profiled roof systems are best suited for roof pitches greater than 5 degrees, while traditional seam wall systems are a great alternative to traditional roofing and are also suitable for pitched roofs. A versatile solution, traditional seam walls are suitable for use with timber frame buildings and can be applied to both roofs and walls. All fixtures are hidden for a clean and attractive finish.

Factors such as the elevation and orientation of the building are important to consider when installing a brise soleil system. Because the sun reaches its highest point in the south, brise soleil systems are most effective on south-facing elevations. In some situations, vertical brise soleil blades may be more effective than horizontal blades (for example on east or west elevations where the angle of the sun is lower).
